25% of Brits Access Porn

A major study into online pornography has now revealed that 25% of adults (yes, that’s 1 in 4), downloaded pornographic images last year.

And guess what?

1.4 million of them were women!

Evidently, Britain is the fastest growing market for Internet porn at the moment and that, in my opinion, is no bad thing.

Don’t get me wrong – I’m not condoning the kind of porn that uses skinny women who are hooked on drugs or women from East block countries that have been promised jobs and a home when they arrive in the UK only to find themselves pushed into the sex industry, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to view other people enjoying good, wholesome sex. After all, that’s part of what swinging’s about.

Sadly, some counsellors are blaming Internet pornography for the breakdown of relationships, comparing a man’s desire to look at others’ having sex with his actually having sex with somebody else.

Where on earth did that comparison come into things? Surely anybody whose marriage could break down simply because one partner wants to look at images of people enjoying sex must have had a pretty rocky relationship to start with? Why on earth do these things always get the blame when other research shows that enjoying pornography can actually strengthen a relationship because a) it makes you more aware of your own body and sexual reactions and b) it can be enjoyed together as a form of foreplay.

The Scandinavians have been enjoying pornography for years but they don’t all go around whining and whinging about their husbands wanting to see somebody else in the buff. They’ve been brought up to have a free and open mind to these things and accept them as just another part of life. I sincerely hope it isn’t long before we Brits can do the same.
